Curry Village started life as Camp Curry in 1899 and now offers you a variety of experiences. You'll find everything from standard motel rooms to cabins with and without private baths to canvas tent cabins in a summer camp atmosphere. There's no cooking here, and no campfire rings, but there are plenty of dining options right in the village. Choose an all-you-can-eat buffet at Curry Village Pavilion, or fresh-baked pizza on the Pizza Deck; grilled burgers at Camp Curry Bar and Grill, or take-out Mexican from the Taqueria. |
I think you'll find Curry Village to be rustic but comfortable - especially if you'd like a dip in a pool after a hot day hiking or a spin around the outdoor ice skating rink on a brisk winter's day!
Many of the packages mentioned at Yosemite Hotels apply also to Curry Village stays, and even to stays at Yosemite Housekeeping Camp (see below). |
This is what I like to call Carefree Camping - I enjoy the privelege of being close to nature, but without all the work and preparation that would normally go into a camping trip!
Much More Rustic, but Still Up Off the Ground!
Want to go a little more rugged yet, but still don't want to set up your own tent? Try Yosemite's Housekeeping Camp.

The Yosemite cabins here are built around a concrete floor and three concrete walls. The roof is canvas, as is the fourth wall which opens onto a covered patio with picnic table and privacy fence. Bathrooms and showers are centralized, and you can cook and have a campfire - great for telling stories and making s'mores!
Comforts you'll find in this Camp: beds, table and chairs, laundry facilities, a camp store, mirror, and electricity. You have to bring your own bed linens (or you can rent bedpacks on site). The best part is that Yosemite's Housekeeping Camp is situated along the Merced River, so you've got the river to lull you to sleep at night. |
Housekeeping Camp and Curry Village can both be full of activity and noisy as Yosemkite cabins are relatively close together and they truly have a Summer Camp sort of atmosphere, but that can be part of the fun!
Our experience has been that most of the campers in Yosemite National Park are friendly, courteous, and considerate of their neighbors.

Yosemite Lodge at the Falls is a less expensive hotel option - it's also a good possibility when you want to stay in the valley, but find that the Ahwahnee is booked.
